メリークリスマス／Merry Christmas 2013

How is your Christmas 2013?  I enjoyed spending with my husband in Kuala Lumpur where was full of Christmas atmosphere.

2013年のクリスマスはいかがでしたか？私はクリスマスムードで賑わうクアラルンプールで旦那さんと楽しく過ごしました。

レンコン／lotus root

最近、スーパーで鮮度のよいレンコンを見かけるようになったので、調べてみたら今がちょうど旬でした。というわけでレンコンが主役の夕飯を作りました。

I see a lot more freshly lotus roots at the supermarket these days. According to the Internet, lotus root in season is between November and February. It`s best season now.Then, I cooked lotus roots for dinner.

観賞用植物／mini potted plants

キャメロンハイランドの道路沿いには高原野菜やいちごの露店が並んでいて、観光客や地元の人で賑わっている。中でも私のオススメは観賞用のミニサボテンと多肉植物を売ってる露店。6鉢で300円でした。

Roadside stalls of vegetable and strawberry are typical in Cameron Highlands and there are many visitors and the local people enjoying shopping there. One of my favorite stalls is mini potted plants selling mini cactus and succulents. They are only RM 10 for a pack of six plants.

キャメロンバレー茶園／Cameron Valley tea plantation

イポーの後、キャメロンハイランドを訪問。ここは日本の軽井沢のような避暑地で、涼しい立地を活かしてマレーシア国内で最大の茶園を有しています。

After visiting Ipoh, we went to Cameron Highlands,where is a cool resort like Karuizawa of Japan and the largest tea growing region in Malaysia. 

Hot chai tea and green tea cookies.

ケリーズキャッスルの訪問者／people visiting Kellie`s castle

お揃いの衣装を着たパフォーマーがケリーズキャッスルの一部屋で踊ってました。

These young performers, who were dressed in the same costumes, were dancing inside one of Kellie`s castle rooms. 

女子大生かな？

I wonder they are female college students.

こちらの新婚さんはウェディングアルバムの撮影中でした。美男美女！
This newly-married couple were enjoying to be taken photos for a wedding album. Handsome and beautiful couple!

ケリーズキャッスル／Kellie`s castle

ケリーズキャッスルはその昔、スコットランド人の農主が妻の為に建てた未完成のお城。

邦画「セカンドバージン」のロケ地にもなりました。

Kellie`s castle is an unfinished, ruined mansion, built by a Scottish planter for his wife.

The Japanese movie "the second virgin" was filmed here.

三宝洞／san poh tong temple

三宝洞は洞窟の中にある中国寺院です。

San poh tong is a Chinese temple inside the cave.

洞窟を抜けると静かな空間が広がっています。

Passing through the cave, you can see this peaceful scenery.

もやしチキンライス／bean sprouts chicken rice

イポーと言えばもやしチキンライスが有名。もやしがシャキシャキしていて美味しい。1人で3人前のもやしを完食。

Bean sprouts chicken rice is one of famous cuisine in Ipoh. The bean sprouts were very crispy. I had three helpings of sprouts !

イポーはソルトチキンも有名でお土産にする人も多いとか。我が家はソルトチキンの代わりに雑貨屋で見つけたこの子を買って帰りました。玄関で鎮座して出迎えてくれます。

Salted chicken is also famous cuisine. Visitors often bring it home as a souvenir.
  Instead of salted chicken, we brought this chicken doll below sold at life shop, Atelier. He always welcomes us and guests sitting at the entrance. 

ホワイトコーヒー／white coffee

南香茶餐室はマレーシアや近隣国でチェーン展開しているカフェショップ・オールドタウンホワイトコーヒーの総本店。ここでホワイトコーヒーやエッグタルト、ローカルフードを食べました。どれも美味しい！

Nam Heong Coffee Shop in Ipoh is famous for being the origin of well-known OLDTOWN™ WHITE COFFEE restaurant chain in Malaysia and other countries. We had white coffee, egg tarts and other local foods for lunch. Every food tastes great!

イポーの旧市街／old city in Ipoh

マレーシアで3番目に大きな都市イポーに行ってきました。ジョージタウンにもあるような古いショップハウスが建ち並ぶ旧市街を散歩。

We visited the 3rd biggest city Ipoh in Malaysia and strolled around the old town that hosts a great collection of old shophouses commonly seen in Georgetown, Penang.

アフターヌーンティー@サフォークハウス／afternoon tea@suffolk house

サフォークハウスでアフターヌーンティーをしてきました。ここはイギリス植民地時代の遺産のひとつで、アングロインディアン文化の庭園や建物がとても良かった。

I went to Suffolk house for enjoying afternoon tea with my husband. This restaurant is one of colonial heritage landmarks in Penang. The ambience of Anglo-indian garden house is great!

オニオンパイとスコーンは焼き立て。2人で80RM（2400円／税込）。

特別な人とデートするのにお薦めなレストランです。

They served fresh baked onionpies and scones with different home-made jams and butter. It cost 80RM(2400yen, including tax) in all. I think it is good place to bring someone special for a date. 

ドリアン中毒／durian-holic

今月は年２回目のドリアンシーズン。昨日たらふく食べたのにもう食べたい。ドリアン中毒だー！

Durian in season comes twice a year and it`s the second best season. Aa I ate a lot of durians yesterday, I do miss it. Durian-holic!!!

スウィートポテト／sweet potato cake

珍しくスーパーに並んでいたさつま芋を買って、スィートポテトを作りました。たった300円で33個も出来た。しっとりと甘くておいしい。日本の秋を思い出しました。

Today I found sweet potatoes, which are usually difficult to get at the supermarket. So, I made sweet potato cakes of 33 pieces. It costs only 10RM in all. Tastes creamy and sweet! They reminds me of  taste of autumn in Japan.

Xmasの準備／preraration for Xmas

気温37℃の中、Xmasの準備で忙しそう。

Today it was still hot and 37 degree in Penang. They were busy for decorating Xmas tree.

2度目のドリアンシーズン／2nd best season for durian

ドリアンが美味しい時期は6月〜7月と11月〜12月の年2回。今は2度目の旬。早速、ドリアン農園に出かけてきました。クリーミーで美味しかった〜。

Durian in season comes twice per year, the first season is between June and July and the second one is November and December.This is the second best season. I went to durian farms with friend`s families and ate a lot of creamy durians!  Really tastes good!

豚汁／sliced pork soup

鹿児島育ちじゃないけれど、甘い鹿児島醤油が好き。

鹿児島醤油で豚汁を作りました。

I am not brought up in Kagoshima of Japan, but I like Kagoshima shoyu, which is a Japanese sweet soy source. 

I made sliced pork soup with it.

中華系マレーシア人のちびっ子は、いつもとびきりの笑顔を向けてくれる。

This kid is a Chinese malaysian and always gives me a special smile.

オラウータンアイランド／orangutan island

オラウータンに会ってきました。

ペナン中心部から車で約１時間。ボートに乗り換えて約10分。

オラウータンが保護されている離島に到着。

We went to Bukit Merah Lake Town to see sanctuary orangutans.

It took about 1 hour by car from Penang island and only 10 minutes by ferry to get there.  

スタッフが栄養剤を飲ませてます。

He is feeding an energy drink.

愛くるしい。見ていて飽きない。

How adorable! Never tire of looking at them!
